Anthony Frost (Principal)
I founded Sanctuary Acoustics in 2011 as an independent acoustic consultancy specialising in noise surveys for planning applications and noise at work assessments as well as general building acoustics design.
Prior to forming Sanctuary Acoustics I had already gained 10 years work experience in the field of acoustics whilst working for acoustic consultancies in both the UK & Australia. The experience was gained in building acoustics design, sound insulation testing, and environmental noise surveys for planning applications, noise surveys for occupational noise assessments, vibration assessments and sound research.
Before moving into the field of acoustics, I worked as an electronics engineer, employed initially in sales then in servicing before moving into the music industry as a studio sound engineer which utilised my previously acquired electronics skills for the purposes of servicing mixing consoles, in particular a Neve mixing console, outboard gear, guitar amps and studio installation work. When not involved in electronics I was also engaged in music production based work performing Pro-Tools editing and miking up instruments for studio recording sessions.
Coming into acoustics with a music & electronics background rather than an environmental science background has given me a real interest in performance space acoustics, although environmental noise surveys are conducted for proposed new venues our consultancy work tends to be split between acoustic assessments for dwellings whether they be new-build dwellings or dwellings formed from a material change of use and noise assessments in connection with industrial & commercial premises in respect to either noise from existing working practises or in relation to the installation of proposed new plant or machinery and potential issues surrounding noise that may cause.
Some noise assessments are conducted with respect to potential noise nuisance issues. In recent years I have given guest lectures on acoustics to Music Technology students studying in the UK, Singapore and New Zealand. I hold the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Diploma in Acoustics & Noise Control and an MSc in Applied Acoustics from the University of Derby. I am a full member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA) and through them a registered Incorporated Engineer (I.Eng) with the Engineering Council.
